🎥✨ Lights, Camera, Action! A group of young #TulaneLiberalArts alumni reunited in Austin at last month's @SXSW for the world premiere of "Roleplay," a documentary film chronicling the creative process of their collaborative, immersive theatre project dealing with hookup culture and consent on college campuses — which they co-wrote and performed in 2019. The original cast won the Big Easy Theatre Award for ‘Best Ensemble,’ and the play will continue to be remounted as an annual production on the university's Uptown campus. Alongside @TulaneU Assistant Professor of Theatre, Jenny Mercein, who also produced the film, director Katie Mathews, and intimacy coordinator Darcy Fulcher, these students used performance to process many of the social issues their generation faces while in college. Following the film's release, the stageplay has also recently started grabbing attention at other American universities, with LSU planning to mount their own production in 2025. At #SXSW, the film was met with critical and audience acclaim alike. Meet the multi-hyphenate and incredibly talented cast and see what they're up to today via the #SLAlinkinbio. As written on rogerebert.com, "One of the best docs I’ve seen so far this year is Katie Mathews’ Roleplay, a film that truly surprised me because it does what so few films like this are willing to do: It lets its subjects be messy, unpredictable, and human. Mathews has a deceptively subtle voice as a director, providing a supportive platform more than insisting on cinematic results. It leads to a film that’s all the more powerful by virtue of feeling so very real."
The Middle American Research Institute (@MARI.Tulane) is celebrating 100 years of groundbreaking research and remarkable achievement!
