Patricia Burns (she/her) received her PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. She began working for the Freshman Writing Program as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in 2011. In 2016 she was hired as a Professor of Practice and has since been promoted to Senior Professor of Practice, effective July 2022. Her writing classes focus on current events, global issues, and rhetorical shifts. She has served as Associate Director of the Freshman Writing Program since 2017. Since 2018, Patricia has taught for Tulane’s College in Prison program at the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women run through Operation Restoration. In 2018 and 2019, she taught Irish literature and culture for the Tulane Summer in Dublin Program, going overseas for four weeks and teaching Tulane students at the University College Dublin. She has also taught creative non-fiction and an honors-level, service-learning seminar on the Rhetoric of Criminal Justice Reform. Her interests include rhetoric, science fiction, film, criminal justice, foreign policy, intersectionality, and community arts.
