Mary-Magdalene Donovan


Mary-Magdalene is a Ph.D. student studying women of color during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in the Louisiana territory. Her research explores the intersectionality of gender, race, and class in the frontier and borderland regions of French and Spanish Louisiana through the use of genealogy to reconstruct families and their migration in the region. She received her MA in History from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 2016. Her intellectual interests include studies of women and race, frontier and borderland approaches, African diaspora, African slavery, and the Atlantic world with a focus on colonial Louisiana and the Caribbean.
