Biography

Ramaj Jamar is an American Visual Artist and Designer for Film, Theatre and Dance. Ramaj is a Houston native and proud alumnus of Texas Southern and New York University. They were awarded the Princess Grace award for their costume designs in 2018. Their recent work include: The Ring of Fire, A Funnyhouse of a Negro, The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World, Bayano, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Zooman and the Sign. You may also know them for their costume illustrations for the Netflix limited miniseries When They See Us. As a visual artist, Ramaj has a series of digital paintings called "Emotional Black Boy" and often works in collage and mixed media. Their work is known to be vibrant, afrofuturistic, and has an element of grit and glam.
