Biography

Ben Growth is a PhD candidate in the History Department at Tulane University. His dissertation is titled The Black Sacrament: How Baptism Created Race in Spanish New Orleans and the Atlantic World. He has won fellowships and awards from the American Historical Association, the Omohundro Institute, the American Society of Church History, the New Orleans Center for the Gulf Coast, the Historic New Orleans Collection, the American Catholic History Association, the Louisville Institute, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and the Louisiana Historical Association. He previously earned an M.Div from Yale Divinity School, a Master of Sacred Theology from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, and degrees in Piano Performance, Religion, and English from Oberlin College and Conservatory.
