Biography

Carlos Juan Lozano received a B.A. in Hispanic Philology (2007), an M.A. in Hispanic Studies (2009) and a PhD in Hispanic Linguistics (2015) from the Universidad de Valencia (Spain). Before joining the Tulane faculty, he taught at the Universidad de Valencia, Hampden Sydney College, and the University of Virginia in Valencia (Spain). Trained in Second Language Acquisition, he has served as a certified tester of DELE Spanish Diplomas, the official certifying degree of competence and mastery of the Spanish language granted by Spain's Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport. He has also worked as the supervisor of Study Abroad Programs in Valencia, Spain.

Professor Lozano’s research interests focus on the Spanish of the Hispanic Media in the United States, Second Language Acquisition, Descriptive and Contrastive grammar, and Dialectology. His pedagogical interests focus on the Spanish for the Professionals (Business, Law, Medical and Architecture), Advanced Grammar and Composition, Spanish Phonetics, Syntax and Morphology, Lexicology, Dialectology and the development and leadership of study abroad programs for undergraduate students.
