Biography
Annie Flanagan is a freelance photographer, filmmaker and educator. Their work is rooted in the documentary framework and focuses on gender, sexuality and trauma in the United States. Annie holds a M.S. in Visual Communication from S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse, New York. Their clients include The New York Times, A&E, The Players’ Tribune, Mother Jones, ESPN Magazine, and Smithsonian Magazine.
Ashley Teamer was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her multimedia artwork explores the complexities of black femininity through painting, collage, and animation. In her visual and curatorial work, Ashley uses the object to transform the gallery space. She has been an Artist-in-Residence at the Joan Mitchell Center and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Most recently Ashley’s work has been shown at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, and Echo Park Film Center.
Research
Photographer Annie Flannagan and mixed-media artist Ashley Teamer documented the Dillard University’s women’s basketball team, The Lady Bleu Devils over the course of their 2018-2019 Season. For 7 months they captured audio, video, and photos of games, players, and behind the scenes moments. They interviewed players and coaches about this season any beyond. This team was founded by Ashley's grandmother Mary Dixon Teamer in the wake of Title IX. This project combines archival and contemporary images that chronicle their pursuit of athletic and academic excellence at a historically black university.
