Biography
Lila Corwin Berman is Professor of History at Temple University, where she holds the Murray Friedman Chair of American Jewish History and directs the Feinstein Center for American Jewish History. Her research focuses on twentieth-century politics and economics among American Jews. Berman's new research explores the intersection of American citizenship law, liberalism, and Jewishness. Most recently, she is author of The American Jewish Philanthropic Complex: The History of a Multibillion-Dollar Institution (Princeton, 2020). Her articles include "How Americans Give: The Financialization of American Jewish Philanthropy," published in the American Historical Review, and "Jewish History beyond the Jewish People," which appeared in the AJS Review.
