The Department of Spanish and Portuguese of Tulane University has a long and distinguished history of researching and teaching the languages, literature, and cultures of the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America, and Lusophone Africa. Our department's classes and degree programs range from basic language instruction through advanced seminars in literature, culture, and linguistics for undergraduate majors and minors and graduate students pursuing the Ph.D. in Spanish and Portuguese.
Our department consists of fifteen tenured and tenure-earning faculty members and six full-time professors of practice who pursue a wide range of research and teaching interests. Our faculty have worked closely with interdisciplinary programs such as Latin American Studies, Africana Studies, Asian Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Medieval and Early Modern Studies.
