Her research focuses on 16th and 17th century Spain, with particular interests in the varied expressions of early modern subjectivity. Her book Don Quixote in the Archives: Madness in Life and Literature in Early Modern Spain (Edinburgh University Press 2012) was a study of the relationship between madness in Don Quixote and the lived experience of madness of early modern Spaniards. She is currently working on a book examining the discourses of visions and demonic possession across Spanish and Spanish American society in the early modern period.
