A message from the GESS Director:
Like many of you, I am outraged by the June 24th US Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health. This decision undid nearly fifty years of protecting the right to an abortion in all fifty states, established Roe v. Wade (1973). There has been an erosion of reproductive rights over the years and decades since Roe. However, the Dobbs decision has been the most significant action to undermine abortion rights and access across the country in one fell swoop.
Given the Dobbs decision, various state-level trigger laws and bans are now in effect across the country. These threaten the basic right to bodily autonomy of all people who can get pregnant. They will also do the most harm to marginalized people who already had reduced access to sexual and reproductive healthcare. These laws and decisions are dangerous to life and health, and they represent a serious injustice. We cannot and will not stand for this.
In solidarity,
KMJ
