Biography
Dr. Jason Gaines teaches Hebrew Bible, Jewish studies, and religious studies. He has previously taught biblical studies at College of the Holy Cross, Smith College, and the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College; and Judaism at Mount Holyoke College and Fairfield University. His major research interests include gender studies (especially concerning the concept of consent in the Bible), biblical poetry, Torah/Pentateuch, and social justice. Dr. Gaines received an MA and PhD from Brandeis University in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies, and a BA from Sarah Lawrence College (also having studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem). He has authored a book, The Poetic Priestly Source (Fortress, 2015), and several articles.
