Undergraduates may enroll in basic language classes in Spanish and Portuguese, or they may pursue majors and minors in Spanish and Portuguese, along with a Joint Major in Spanish and Portuguese. Many of our degree-seeking students combine a major or minor in Spanish or Portuguese with a degree in other disciplines or professional programs, such as business, law, public health, engineering, social work, and education. We strongly recommend that students take Portuguese classes, which can provide a competitive edge in an increasingly globalized economy that demands communication skills in a variety of languages. Recent undergraduate majors from our department have pursued careers in a wide range of professions, including law, medicine, education, government, and business.
