SLT EMPLOYMENT POLICY
Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane University is committed to championing diversity in all our works and engages in a policy of equal employment opportunity designed to promote a positive model of inclusion. SLT encourages performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, as well as performers with disabilities, to attend the auditions.
Special Note on EVITA Casting
EVITA is a show that has had a long history of casting practices that have condoned inequality, exclusion and inappropriate representation (i.e. brown-face) to performers of color. We at Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane are aware of those histories and those practices and have made a sincere commitment to color conscious casting. In casting our production of EVITA, we will make every effort to engage with the Latinx community of the Greater New Orleans area regarding their representation and the portrayal of the historical figures in this production.
Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane functions under AEA’s Council of Stock Theatres contract (COST). We offer a certain amount of AEA contracts per production (an average of 3). We offer AEA contracts to out-of-town performers for specific roles, but we try to cast locally as much as possible.
All adult actors will receive compensation for their work during the season. If they are not already member of Actors’ Equity Association, they are also eligible to join the Equity Membership Candidacy program and earn points toward their Equity Card.
By practice, we do not pay younger actors (high school and younger), but these performers are also eligible for the EMC program.
Please send links to your reels to Artistic Director Michael McKelvey at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please indicate in the body of the email what show(s) role(s) you are interested in, as well as if you have local housing and if you are AEA.
For Legally Blonde, please make sure you display some contemporary dance. Finally, do not include your reel as an attachment in the email. Please send it as a link to a website (i.e. your personal website, Youtube, Vimeo, etc.)
Deadline for video submissions is Friday, February 14.
