Biography
Shao-Yun Chang is a PhD student in anthropology at Tulane University. She received her M.A. in anthropology from the University of Florida and B.A. in anthropology from National Taiwan University. Her work focuses on understanding transnational marriages between Taiwan and Vietnam, particularly how kin relations structure mobility and citizenship. Her Master’s project examines ethnographic representation of kin relations, contextualizing theoretical framework of kinship studies and addressing ways to document, write and contemplate kinship ties through materiality. For her doctoral project, she has been exploring the intricate relations between kinship, legality, and state, and how transnational marriages embody multiple trajectories between Taiwan and Vietnam. She has been awarded the GSSA scholarship by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan for 2017-2019.
