Transfer Credit Policy

The History Department offers transfer for credit on a case by case basis. This includes courses taken at other universities/colleges and study abroad courses. In addition, the Department approves courses only after students have completed the course (we do not offer pre-approval). The Department approves courses if they meet the same academic standards of regular Tulane History courses, which means an engagement with primary and secondary sources and a substantial writing component. (Please see our learning goals for more detail.) We do not provide transfer credit for courses that do not have a substantial academic writing component.

In order to determine if your course can receive History credit at Tulane, please make an appointment with the Director of Undergraduate Studies. At this point, you will need to submit the course syllabus and all written assignments for evaluation.

Dual Enrollment:

The Department of History does not provide transfer credit for dual enrollment courses taken on high school campuses. Classes must take place on a college campus and they must be taught by a college professor in a classroom comprised of mostly college students. The Department of History will provide transfer credit for eligible dual enrollment courses only if they meet the same rigorous academic standards for regular Tulane History courses, including an engagement with primary and secondary sources and a substantial writing component. The Department will make these decisions on an individual basis and by review of the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
