Study Abroad can be one of the most rewarding and transforming aspects of your university education. History students, in particular, will return with a greater understanding of people, cultures and societies from outside their own experience, gaining a wider worldview and a deeper appreciation of the earth's complexity and shared humanity. The Department of History strongly recommends study abroad experiences for all students.
Study abroad can be done through special summer programs and for semester- or year-long Junior Year Abroad (JYA) programs. Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad Programs are carefully vetted by the Office of Study Abroad and approved by the Newcomb-Tulane Study Abroad Committee.
Programs are available through the world, including Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Oceania.

Scholarships
There are a number of scholarship opportunities (university-wide and national) that can help defray study-abroad costs.
Transfer Credit
The History Department only approves credit for classes taken abroad after the course(s) have been completed. However, if you are going abroad, you may wish to speak to the Director of Undergraduate Studies before your departure to discuss the Department's transfer policies and your academic plans. Please see the Department's transfer credit policy for more information.
