Admissions

There are two admission categories for the M.A. in Policy Economics Program:

  1. Five-Year B.A./M.A. or B.S./M.A. (internal) applicants:

Internal applicants are students currently enrolled in a degree-granting program at Tulane University. The typical applicant will have completed the sophomore year, all of the Tulane curriculum requirements (except the Writing Practicum), and must have completed (or plan to complete by the end of the junior year) all of the following courses: ECON 1010, 1020, 3010, 3020, and 3230. Candidates for the B.S. will also have completed these courses and MATH 1210 and 1220.
Internal students are not required to take the GRE. In lieu of the GRE, internal students must submit three letters of recommendation from Tulane faculty members (Economics preferred). The application form is available at this link: Graduate Programs Office of the School of Liberal Arts.

Admission is on a rolling basis; internal applications will be reviewed at any time.

  2. Two-Year M.A. (external) applicants:

At the time of enrollment, two-year M.A. students will have completed a B.A. or B.S. degree at another college or university and will have successfully completed course equivalents of the following courses: Introductory Micro and Macro, Intermediate Micro and Macro, and Economic Statistics. In special circumstances, students without these prerequisites may enroll early to finish remedial coursework. Applicants who are not currently enrolled at Tulane University must submit a formal application to the Graduate Programs Office of the School of Liberal Arts (see below), plus GRE scores and three letters of recommendation.

The institution code for Tulane University, for both the GRE and TOEFL, is 6183. The GRE department code for economics is 1801; that for the TOEFL is 84.

We accept external applications for the fall semester only. We prefer internal applications for the fall semester. However, internal applications for the spring semester are allowed at the discretion of the graduate director.

The application deadline for external applications is April 1. The online application, mailing address, and more detailed instructions are available at the Graduate Programs Office of the School of Liberal Arts.
