September 23, 2019: Federal Reserve Systems Job Opportunities
The Board of Governors and the 12 Federal Reserve Banks throughout the country are currently recruiting upcoming graduates to fill a number of Research Assistant positions that will become available in the spring and summer of 2020. The positions are full-time, salaried, and offer benefits, including tuition assistance.
Research Assistants work closely with economists at the top of their fields on a variety of research questions and real-world policy issues while developing a toolkit beneficial for graduate study and future career paths. Research Assistants typically work for two to three years, before going on to competitive graduate programs or pursuing other careers.
We seek individuals with strong academic records and excellent written and oral communication skills. Competitive candidates should have intermediate coursework in economics and a strong foundation in mathematics and statistics. We also look for prior research experience, demonstrated interest in economics, programming experience, and familiarity with statistical programming packages, such as STATA, MATLAB, and R. Most positions require US citizenship, but some Reserve Banks consider non-U.S. citizen candidates.

April 10, 2019: The Coalition for a Prosperous America: Part-Time Tax Research Assistant
The Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is seeking a part-time Tax Research Assistant to support the CPA Economics team with research on corporate taxation issues. CPA is a bipartisan coalition of US manufacturers, agricultural groups, and labor unions. CPA engages in educational efforts and advocacy related to US trade and tax policies, with the goal of rebuilding the US economy and restoring broadly shared prosperity for America.
The Project: Corporate taxation in the US has evolved into a complex set of rules, exemptions, deductions, and deferrals that favor large multinational enterprises and foreign companies while providing large benefits for certain industries. Despite some improvements to the overall tax code, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 failed to address most of these inequities. CPA is seeking a research assistant to help us fulfill a research agenda, including the development of a series of reports analyzing the results of the 2017 bill as well as generating proposals to improve or replace the current system.
Position description and qualifications: The research project is expected to run from six to 12 months. The right candidate will have excellent research skills and the ability to write clear explanations of complex subjects. They should have familiarity with tax economics and the US taxation system as well as some familiarity with the US corporate and business landscape. They may be a graduate student in accounting, economics, business, or law. Additionally, they will have experience gathering and working with data, including experience with Excel and other software platforms used to process and analyze data. The Tax Research Assistant will be expected to work approximately 40 hours per month for the duration of the project. The project will likely begin on or around May 1. Pay will be competitive. The Tax Research Assistant will report to CPA Chief Economist Jeff Ferry.
Location: In the United States, preferably in the Washington DC area. The actual day-to-day work will be conducted remotely.

The Fall 2019 White House Internship Program term runs from Wednesday, September 4 to Friday, December 6, 2019. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age by the internship program start date and must be able to commit to the full internship term to be eligible. Additionally, applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet at least one of the following criteria to apply:

February 21, 2019: Columbia University Bridge-to-the-Ph.D. Program
The Columbia Economics Department is recruiting its first-ever cohort of Bridge-to-the-Ph.D. scholars for fall 2019.
The Bridge-to-the-Ph.D. program is designed to increase the participation of students from underrepresented groups in Ph.D. programs in STEM fields, including Economics. It is an intensive research, academic, and mentoring experience for post-baccalaureates seeking to strengthen their graduate school applications and to prepare for the transition into Ph.D. programs. Scholars who apply to and are selected for the economics program will be paired with a mentor in the economics department, and take part in activities tailored towards Ph.D. programs in the field.
Bridge participants are hired as full-time Columbia University research assistants (RAs) for up to two years and conduct research under the mentorship of faculty members, post-doctoral researchers, and graduate students. Potential research areas within the department include behavioral economics, development, macroeconomics, urban economics, industrial organization, education, health, and political economy.
The 2019-2020 salary for Bridge RAs is $51,376 per year. Program participants are also provided with $2000 per year to support professional and educational expenses (examples include travel to professional conferences and purchase of books), and, as full-time employees are eligible for University benefits.
Bridge participants also enroll in one to two courses per semester at Columbia that are related to their future field of study. These might include mathematics courses, undergraduate electives in economics, or Master's or Ph.D. level introductory courses. The program also organizes a number of professional development workshops, provides access to GRE test preparation, and partners with Columbia's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science to ensure success while at Columbia and to facilitate application to Ph.D. programs.
