Urinetown- The Musical

The Tulane Musical Theatre Workshop and Newcomb Department of Music presents Urinetown as its Spring 2020 musical!

After last year’s heralded production of Spring Awakening, the Tulane Musical Theatre Workshop is back with the Tony Award winning URINETOWN. Originally, Urinetown was the show that no production company would touch. It was only after winning audiences over at the New York Fringe Festival that Urinetown made its Off-Broadway debut in May of 2001 and subsequently transferred to Broadway in September 2001 just after 9/11. The production would go one to play for 965 performances.

Urinetown is the story of a society on the verge of collapse due to a water shortage and the corporate control of the water supply of UGC - Urine Good Company. Forcing the citizens to pay for the use of the public toilets, they revolt against Caldwell B. Cladwell and his political and corporate cronies. This satirical comedy pays homage and parodies such shows as Three Penny Opera, The Cradle Will Rock and Les Miserables, as well as The Broadway Musical. Nominated for 10 Tony Awards, Urinetown would go on to win for Best Book (Greg Kotis), Best Original Score (Mark Hollman & Greg Kotis) and Best Director (John Rando).

The Tulane Musical Theatre Workshop will be directed by Michael E. McKelvey and choreographed by Gabriella Vasquez, and features a cast of 19.
