Give to the School of Liberal Arts at Tulane

The School of Liberal Arts relies profoundly on the support of our alumni and friends to fulfill our mission of fostering and promoting innovative scholarship, transformative research, and creative inquiry within the social sciences, humanities, and fine and performing arts.

Their donations enable us to recruit and retain outstanding faculty, supply resources for travel and research, endow named professorships and chairs, bestow scholarships and awards on worthy students, bring renowned speakers and conferences to campus, and provide facilities for cutting-edge research and creative activities.

If you would like to direct your gift to a particular department or program, or have any general questions about our giving priorities, please reach out to our Senior Director of Development Miles Garrett.

Q&A with Miles Garrett

You’ve spent most of your career in development, with Tulane as your third university. Why fundraising in higher ed?

Because I’ve seen the magic that fundraising can create here, specifically through the impact the liberal arts can have on students.

I’ve witnessed a student come to a university with no idea of their direction or path, then through the extensiveness of the liberal arts realize they have the freedom to find their passion. Seeing that liberal arts student really grasp ahold of one of those content areas is a stark contrast to some of the more traditional, trade-oriented career paths you might see in other schools. It’s more than learning a skill—it’s learning how to be a citizen of the world.

Do you have a favorite part of your job?

Getting to play a role in helping a donor’s vision come to life.

Whether it’s a new scholarship named for a loved one passionate about a certain subject, or a fund to support professors in groundbreaking research… For me, the magic is in witnessing donors take pride in giving back to a university—especially when, potentially, a donor came to the conversation without that pride. To be a part of that moment when they really embrace the university again, that’s the magic.

What are you most looking forward to in this role?

I’m energized to come aboard during such a pivotal moment in the history of the School of Liberal Arts at Tulane. Our student body is as engaged and diverse as it’s ever been, and we house the humanities, arts and social sciences that are core to the Gen Z conversation. Our faculty are poised to place an indelible stamp on the face of humanity. And our university is racing towards the finish of the Only the Audacious campaign…as well as seeing record enrollment. What am I not looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to growing the School of Liberal Arts and its footprint, to finding funds for our world class faculty’s research, and to seeing our students harness the power of a Tulane education.

Dean Edwards has set the school on an unprecedented course of growth, and I’m here to see it take the strides it so deserves.
