Develop the skills to work in modern international affairs reporting. Tulane is partnering with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a prominent Washington D.C. think tank, to offer this special course combining web-based journalism techniques and international policymaking.
Students will spend the first week on the Tulane campus focused on the politics of globalization as viewed through the lens of the decision to withdraw from the Transpacific Partnership (TPP). The second week will be spent in Washington D.C. working in small teams with CSIS policy experts and web developers to construct the story of the TPP’s strange life. The goal is to build a narrative explaining what roles free trade, deindustrialization, global value chains, human rights, and competition with China played in the TPP’s rise and fall and to translate the story into an appealing, virtual format. In the third week, students will return to Tulane to ready the project for upload to the permanent website at CSIS.
Best of all, we are able to offer this course, travel included, for $750.
Applications are now being taken for ten open spots. Applicants must have completed POLI 2500; in addition, we are looking for:
- A strong record of academic achievement
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience working in a team
- Working knowledge of world affairs
