A Note from the Director of Undergraduate Studies

Thank you for your interest in the undergraduate program in English at Tulane. We have a vibrant, award-winning faculty and a rich array of classes and other programs. In addition to coursework in diverse literatures, the English Department offers classes in such areas as creative writing, expository writing, film, television, new media, environmental studies, archival research, cultural studies, gender and sexuality studies, race, postcolonial studies, graphic novels, hip hop, standup comedy, and literary theory.

Students from across the university take our courses or join the Department to develop strengths in writing, close reading, creativity, critical thinking, argumentation, interpretation, analysis, and research. Our courses also invite students to approach their world with a sense of imagination, empathy, civic engagement, and inclusion.

The links above will help you find answers to many of the questions you may have, but there is no substitute for talking to a member of the faculty. So whether you are a major, a minor, a current student, a prospective student, an alum, or just someone who wants to know more about the program, please do not hesitate to contact me.
