“… liberal arts are essential to navigating that complexity with curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and judgment.”

From the Editors

This year marks 20 years since the School of Liberal Arts took its current form, following the reorganization of Tulane after Hurricane Katrina. Two decades later, we are living through another period of profound change, as artificial intelligence, global uncertainty, and shifting social and economic forces reshape how we work, communicate, create, and understand one another. SLA’s 20th anniversary theme, Built for This Moment, reflects our belief that the liberal arts are essential to navigating that complexity with curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and judgment.

In this issue of the Tulane School of Liberal Arts Magazine, discover how Tulane is putting that belief into practice through investments in faculty and students, Newcomb Hall, and new programs and centers. Explore the SLA experiences that connect learning to New Orleans and the world, while building on the history that made those investments possible.

For 20 years, we have shared these stories through a variety of means: in print, via emailed newsletters, and, increasingly, through social media and digital channels. As communication continues to evolve, we are considering whether to move away from print and make this anniversary issue our final physical magazine.

As we consider this possibility, we want to hear from our readers! Do you read the magazine? Would you miss receiving it in print? How would you prefer to stay connected? Please share your thoughts through our reader survey. Your voice makes a difference!

Thank you for reading the stories from the School of Liberal Arts and for being central to what comes next.
