On October 27, 2016, Ed Morse, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Sociology, passed away in Cashiers, North Carolina, where he had been living since his retirement from Tulane in 2008. Dr. Morse was one of the department’s longest serving members, having arrived at Tulane in the early 1970s. Dr. Morse chaired the department for a number of years in the 1980s. His courses in Sociology of Law and Sociology of Medicine were popular with students, many of whom regarded him as a valuable mentor as well as an inspiring teacher. His departmental colleagues recall that he had a lot of energy and was a tremendous Tulane booster. Dr. Morse was best-known to many on Tulane’s faculty and staff as the perennial marshal of the university’s graduation ceremonies. Dr. Morse is survived by his wife Patricia Murray Morse, two sons, a step-son, a step-daughter, and two grandsons.
