Ghazouane Arslane

Assistant Professor, Comparative Literature

Attending and presenting at the European Association for Modern Arabic Literature (EURAMAL26), at the University of St. Andrews, UK, funded by the SLA Tenure Track International Conferences Fund. The theme is "Catastrophe and Beyond: Representations of Violence and Trauma in Modern Arabic Literature". This is a major conference in the field that will feature internationally recognized scholars of Arabic literature as well as Arab writers and poets. My paper will explore the history of violence/the violence of history in literary rewritings of the Algerian War of Independence and its postcolonial aftermath; it will examine how literature as an aesthetic discourse intervenes in, and reshapes how we view and understand, the politics and history of the postcolonial nation.
