SLA Event-Planning Calendar

How to add an event to the Planning Calendar

SLA website editors and publishers can create planning events directly on the SLA website. Use the Planning Calendar to share upcoming events, including those with tentative dates.

If your department or program doesn’t have a website editor or publisher, use our web edit request form to request website editing access.

1. Access the Planning Event form

2. Enter the event details

Complete these required fields:

  • Event Name: Enter the name of the event.
  • Departments: Select the primary sponsoring department, program, or center.
  • Date Status: Select the option that best describes how certain the event date is.

Add co-sponsors and planning notes if applicable.

3. Enter the scheduling information

Complete the date fields according to your selected Date Status:

  • Confirmed or Tentative: Enter the event’s start and end dates and times in Event date and time. Leave Week of blank.
  • Week known, exact date TBD: Enter the Monday of the expected week in Week of. Leave Event date and time blank.

For example, if an event is expected sometime during the week of February 22–28, 2027, enter February 22, 2027.

4. Save and check your event

  • To publish the event to the calendar: Select Published in the moderation status field, then save.
  • To publish later: Select Draft, then save. Drafts do not appear on the calendar.
  • After publishing, open the Planning Calendar and navigate to the event month to check its details.

5. Update a published event

  • Find the event on the Content page and select Edit.
  • If an exact date becomes available for a week-only event, update Date Status, enter the start and end dates and times, and clear Week of.
  • Select Published and save to publish the changes.
