Welcome to the Theatre and Dance Department at Tulane University! We believe in the value of dance as self-expression, communication and perspective through which we see the world around us. We know dance is powerful and hope to find the talented students who are willing to use that power for positive change.
Dance students can expect to study technique and movement and artistry in a variety of dance styles and disciplines in an established dance program with esteemed dance faculty, and guest choreographers and dancers from the professional dance world. Students will get a well-rounded experience learning dance theory and techniques, as well as performance and performance production. With annual student produced performance like Above the Oaks and Young Performers, our dancers are well prepared to star in or make dance productions.
Elite dancers can audition for a space in the Newcomb Dance Company. This special company works within our dance program to refine dance skills through performance. The Newcomb Dance Company presents an annual spring dance concert that often features professional guest artists as dancers or choreographers – furthering the dancers of the dance company’s performance experience and professional skills.
