Biography
Alice Pascal Escher was born in New Orleans. She is an Associate Professor of Dance, Associate Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, and has been a member of the Newcomb Dance Program faculty since 1982. She founded the Newcomb Dance Company in 1985 and was Artistic Director for 35 years. Escher holds a B.F.A. in dance from Florida State University and an M.F.A. in dance from Temple University in Philadelphia. In 2012, she was certified in Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis. Her Laban studies continue to inspire her teaching, choreography, and interactions with other humans. Before coming to Tulane, Escher was on the faculty of the School of the Pennsylvania Ballet and a member of Sybil Dance Company in Philadelphia. Since 2013, Escher has been on the faculty of the New Orleans Ballet Association’s Pre-Professional Training Program and has found unexpected joy and fulfillment teaching NOBA’s talented students. Escher has two grown daughters, Lucy and Claire, who majored in dance at Tulane and were members of the Newcomb Dance Company.
