Professor Morgan Palmer presented a paper entitled “Between Text and Monument: Inscriptional Intermediality in Livy” at the June 2018 Intermediality Workshop at the Morphomata Kolleg, University of Cologne. This workshop, organized by Martin Dinter of King’s College, London and Bettina Reitz-Joosse of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, brought together an international group of scholars to explore the intersections between different media in ancient literature and material culture. Palmer’s paper focused on how the Roman historian Livy vividly recreates epigraphic monuments within the text of his history. Students in Palmer’s “Rise of Rome” courses learn about how Livy’s history intersects with Roman inscriptions and monuments, and students in her Latin classes at all levels study epigraphy.
