A fellow at All Souls College, Oxford, ANGELOS CHANIOTIS earned his Ph.D. and Dr.Habil. at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. He is an internationally recognized authority on ancient Greek history and culture, especially as revealed in inscriptions. Prof. Chaniotis is one of the editors of the Supplementum Epigraphicum Graecum. In addition, he is the author of War in the Hellenistic World: A Social and Cultural History as well as of Das Antike Kreta. He has written many articles on ancient Greek society and is also co-editor of Army and Power in the Ancient World.
