Morgan Palmer presented a paper entitled “Res Gestae: The Queen of Inscriptions and the History of Epigraphers” at the January 2019 Society for Classical Studies meeting in San Diego. This paper, part of a panel organized by the American Society of Greek and Latin Epigraphy, examines scholarship on the Res Gestae, a monumental inscription commemorating the emperor Augustus’s achievements. Palmer’s paper draws upon archival materials to tell the stories of epigraphers who studied the Res Gestae through letters, photographs, and samples of their scholarly work.
