Message from the Dean, January 2016

Carole Haber, Tulane University

A new year with new initiatives

With the new year upon us, it seems fitting to focus on some new initiatives that make the School of Liberal Arts the amazing place it is. It also seems quite appropriate to recognize several of the school’s numerous donors without whose vision and generosity we could not offer our students the outstanding opportunities we do, or create the programs that distinguish the school and its outstanding faculty.

As you will read, supporters of SLA are making a real impact upon the mission of the school and its ability to reach out to both the public and the scholarly community. Through the generosity of Wilson Magee, a new online journal is being planned by the New Orleans Center for the Gulf South. Due to the vision of Alan Lawrence, our Center for Scholars will continue to be able to bring world-renowned scholars to speak on Tulane's campus. The Advisory Board of the Shakespeare Festival has committed to supporting the work of the festival that travels in the schools, brings high school students to Tulane to see a live performance, and hold summer performances. The Glick fellowships continue to support the work of our scholars as they travel the world and do cutting-edge research. And, once again, we are able to offer incredible summer programs for our students supported by donors who share with us their dedication to the liberal arts and their unique vision for our students’ education.

With doubt, through the commitment of our alumni, parents, and friends, and the work of our faculty, staff, and students, the new year looks bright indeed!
