The School of Liberal Arts offers a variety of “4+1” Accelerated MA Degree Programs. These programs, which allow Tulane University undergraduates to earn a master’s degree in a fifth year of graduate study at a substantially reduced tuition rate.
In the “4+1” programs, up to six credit hours of upper-level courses (6000 and above) can satisfy the major requirements for undergraduates while also counting for credit towards a graduate degree. Requirements vary across programs and departments, so interested students should consult the Director of Graduate Studies for the program of interest.
Students must apply to the 4+1 programs online. While application deadlines differ by department, students generally apply in the fall semester of the junior year in order to schedule appropriate classes. Many departments do accept applications by students in their senior year. Admission is based on undergraduate performance and recommendations from professors.
