Description
The Newcomb Art Department and Program in Digital Media Practices at Tulane University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in studio art with a focus on digital art and expanded media. Appointment to begin July 2025.
The Newcomb Art Department is one of the oldest art departments in the South, founded as part of the first degree-granting college for women in the U.S., and fully incorporated into Tulane University in 1987. The department is at an exciting moment in its trajectory. We are expanding our commitment to reflect the transnational networks of the contemporary art world and building on our connections to our culturally diverse and profoundly creative home city of New Orleans, itself a global cultural capital. Tulane’s Strategy for Tomorrow outlines the university’s commitment to support a diverse and equitable community both professionally and personally. The School of Liberal Arts has echoed these values by underlining equity in hiring processes and emphasizing mentoring, faculty support, and belonging. The Newcomb Art Department embraces this commitment.
Digital Media Practices provides students opportunities to develop and refine digital media skills omnipresent across exhibition spaces and streaming platforms. Students pursue fundamentals through coursework in content creation, storytelling, and media manipulation in filmmaking, screenwriting, audio production, Interactive media, game design, podcasting, and interdisciplinary media. The program’s workshop-style classes allow experienced and supportive faculty to define student goals and actively collaborate — critical soft skills in the media production industry.
