Visual Resources Center

Mission

The mission of the Visual Resources Center is to support the Newcomb Art Department and Tulane University community by providing and developing high-quality visual resources for teaching and research in studio art and art history. The VRC helps professors and their students find, create, and display images of artwork. The VRC also provides technical and audio/visual support for the Newcomb Art Department.

Collection Development

The VRC creates and manages digital images for course presentation and study. To request scanning please complete the Scanning Request Sheet and bring the materials to the VRC, room 309 Woldenberg Art Center. The suggested amount of time for a request is a minimum of two weeks and last minute requests will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Copyright

Use of the images in Newcomb Art Department's collection is restricted under the fair use clause of the Copyright Law (Title 17, United States Code). The images are available for educational use only, commercial use of any kind is strictly prohibited by law.

ARTstor

Tulane University Libraries maintains a subscription to ARTstor.

Onsite Resources

The VRC houses a VHS/DVD collection and a book collection to support teaching and research in art. A/V equipment including projectors and laptops are available for use. These items may be checked out by faculty, students, or staff of the art department. The check out sheets are completed when the equipment leaves the center and when it returns. Student use must be sponsored by a faculty member.
